The Land of Oz (Beech Mountain, North Carolina)
Have you always wanted to be off to see the Wizard? Did you know that, in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, there used to be a theme park named The Land of Oz? The park shut down after a fire in 1980, but every year in October the "Autumn Party at Oz" takes place here.
At this party, guests will take a tour through Uncle Henry's and Aunt Em's farm and meet Dorothy and friends on the Yellow Brick Road. There will also be a mini-museum and artefacts to share, new and old trivia will be available for purchase and of course there will be plenty of food and music.
Besides the Autumn at Oz Party, Oz is open for one group of visitors at a time. This means, to visit you do have to book, but having a private stroll down the Yellow Brick Road does make it a magical experience.
If you want to discover the Beech Mountain Area some more, how about renting Dorothy's house? It's all possible here, in the magical Land of Oz on Emerald Mountain.

Judy Garland's home town (Grand Rapids, Minnesota)
Judy Garland was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, on June 10, 1922. On December 26, 1924, Judy made her on stage debut in this very same town.
Judy, or Baby Gumm at the time, and her two sisters, Suzy and Jimmy Gumm, used to perform at their father's theater. The theater has been closed ever since the family moved to Lancaster in 1926, but the exterior is still fun to see if you're a fan.
Inside the house is now The Judy Garland Museum. Open for visitors as a museum and around Judy Garland's birthday you can expect a lot of events there, with Judy's children present as well.
The Gumm's house used to be at the corner of Second and Fourth Streets, but nowadays the museum is located at 2727 US Hwy 169 South. A Judy Garland gift shop is located in the Gumm's old kitchen.
